Week 6 · Long run

"Perfect. Hold this effort."

26.2 miles. Months of training. Hundreds of questions. One Pacer.

The problem

Training for your first marathon is overwhelming.

A traditional training plan cannot reassure you. A spreadsheet cannot tell you you're doing okay. Most running apps treat marathon training as a fitness problem.

For a first-time marathoner, it is also an emotional and psychological journey. Pacer exists to support both.

  • "Am I running too fast?"
  • "Why is my heart rate so high?"
  • "I've missed my long run. Have I ruined everything?"
  • "My knee hurts. Should I run?"
  • "Everyone else seems faster than me."
  • "What pace should I run on race day?"
  • "What happens if I hit the wall?"
  • "Can I actually do this?"

Feature 01 · Personalised training

There's no such thing as a generic beginner marathoner.

One runner is aiming for 4:30. Another is aiming for 7 hours. Their fitness, pacing, recovery and race-day experience will be completely different. So why should they receive the same "beginner plan"?

Your plan adapts to your life. Not the other way around.

Pacer insight · Your heart rate was slightly higher than normal today. Don't worry — we'll keep tomorrow easy.

Pace and heart rate only tell part of the story. After each session Pacer asks how it actually felt — easy, about right, hard, awful.

Over time Pacer learns what easy, steady, marathon-effort and hard running look like for you. Training becomes more you-shaped with every run.

Heart rate · last 6 weeks

Feature 03 · Coaching while you run

Most apps tell you what to run. Pacer helps you while you're running it.

Using pace, heart rate, workout stage and everything Pacer has learned about you, Pacer offers intelligent audio guidance in the moment — speaking only when it has something useful to say.

You're running a little harder than planned. Ease back slightly — today is about building endurance.
Perfect. That's exactly where we want you.

Feature 04 · Motivation that knows you

Motivation that actually means something.

Pacer learns why you entered this marathon, who you're running for, what you're afraid of, and the sessions you've already overcome.

Not "keep going, you've got this." Something that means something.

Long run · Mile 14

"You told me you signed up for Sophie. She's watching at mile 22. That's an hour away. You can do an hour."

Feature 05 · When it starts to fall apart

I NEED HELP

One button, for the moment you don't have words.

Sometimes it's practical: "slow down for the next kilometre, take your gel, get some water and reset."

Sometimes it's a reminder: "you've been here before. Remember that 18-mile training run when you thought you couldn't finish? You did."

Intelligent reassurance. Not empty positivity.

Feature 06 · Friends and family

Your people come with you.

Before race day, the people who matter to you can leave messages for Pacer to deliver at moments when you may need them most.

A partner. A child. A parent. A friend. Someone you're running for. Pacer can deliver those messages during the marathon based on meaningful moments in the race.

Mile 21.7

"Dad, if you're hearing this, you're nearly there. We're waiting for you at the finish. We love you."

Some motivation shouldn't come from an algorithm.

Feature 07 · Race day

You trained together.
Now race together.

Pacer has spent months learning your training, your fitness, your pacing, your strengths and your weaknesses. On race day it becomes the pacer running alongside you — helping you avoid the classic first-marathon mistake of going out too fast, and adapting as your race unfolds.

You're exactly where we planned to be. The next mile has a small rise — hold effort, not pace.

Feature 08 · You're not alone

You're not alone.

A niggle. A missed week. A terrible long run. Doubt. Marathon training can feel surprisingly lonely — and often nobody around you really understands what you're going through.

Not another feed. A quiet reminder that other people feel this too.

Real human support

And sometimes you don't need another metric. You just need someone to ask.

Pacer is planned to connect you with real people from the Pacer team via message — for general running and training questions, in the run-up to your marathon.

Anything medical will always be directed to appropriate qualified healthcare professionals.

Feature 09 · Built by runners

Built by runners who remember their first marathon.

The nerves. The terrible long runs. The missed sessions. The Google searches at 11pm. The niggles. The fear of not finishing. The start line. And crossing it.

Pacer combines that lived experience with methodologies and input from experienced professional running coaches, because a great coach understands both performance and people.
